Decatur County Journal
February 2l, l90l

CARL HOMER HATFIELD was born in Mitchell County, Kansas, November 3,
l887, and died at the home of his parents in north Leon, February ll,
l90l, of typhoid fever, after a long and painful illness, aged l3 years,
3 months and 8 days. HOMER was an unusually bright and thoughtful boy,
and by his kind disposition endeared himself to all. He will be greatly
missed in his home, by his teacher, school mates, and friends. He
leaves a father, mother, two brothers and one sister to mourn his loss.

His funeral was held at the Bethel Church and the remains laid to rest
in the Bethel Cemetery there to await the resurrection.

We miss thee from our home, dear child,
We miss thee from the place;
A shadow o'er our lives is cast
We miss the sunshine of thy face.

Farewell, farewell dear Homer dear;
His voice on earth we no more hear;
He was so kind; his ways so dear,
But now he's gone; he is not here.

Homer is gone--oh how we miss him,
Yet we know he is at rest;
And we know that Christ our Savior
Doeth all things for the best.

He laid his hands upon his breast
And fell asleep and is at rest;
His spirit rests with God on high
Where we can meet him by and by.

The angels took him home above
There we will meet where all is love,
Then farewell, brother, again farewell,
We soon will meet where all is love.

MERGIE.
