SARAH JANE BOLEN was born in Green County, Ohio, Feb. l0, l836, and died
in Leon, Iowa, Aug. 27, l90l. She was married to S.A. HAMILTON, Dec.
2l, l854, in Randolph County, Ind. As a result of this union, five
children were born, two of whom, JOSEPH W. and MARY ELLEN died in
infancy. JOHN OLIVER, BYRON F. and FRED P. with the bereaved husband,
survive to mourn her loss. She was one of the early settlers of Decatur
County, and endured patiently the privations common to pioneer life.

During the last three or four years she has been in failing health. Her
last illness was brief. It took but a few short days to release her
tired spirit from the tenement of clay. She was a devoted and
industrious wife, an affectionate and indulgent mother, as well as a
kind friend and loyal woman. She united with the M.E. Church during the
pastorate of the Rev. Bennett about thirty years ago, and remained a
member until the day of her death.

The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, the Rev. Joseph
Stephen, at her home, when an appropriate address was given on the death
of a mother. She sleeps the sleep of the just. Peace be to her memory.
