Decatur County Journal
August 2, l906
Wednesday of last week, July ll, l906, MRS. WALTER C. HALL died at the
home of her parents, MR. and MRS. J.C. GAMMILL, in lower Medicine
precinct.
She had been sick for a month during all of which time her indomitable
spirit, characteristic of her life, struggled with death and for a time
it seemed possible that she would recover.
Deceased was best known to the people of this county as MISS ELIZABETH
GAMMILL, having been a teacher in the county for several years and
having acted as deputy district clerk for several years. She was united
in marriage to WALTER C. HALL on March 29, l905, and they had made their
home northwest of Maywood since that time, but at the time of her
sickness she was at the home of her parents.
Funeral services were held at the Congregational Church last Thursday
afternoon, being conducted by Prof. Thomas Scott, it was probably the
largest funeral ever held in Stockville and nearly a hundred teams
followed the remains to their last resting place. It was indicative of
the respect, love and esteem in which she was held by the people of this
vicinity. For many years she was a resident of Stockville and her
strong personality won her many dear friends. She was a leader in
social affairs and an active member of the Congregational Church of
which she became a member in l902.
All of her relatives, except one sister, MRS. B.C. MOULTON, were present
in her funeral. Interment was made in the Stockville Cemetery.
To her husband, other relatives and to the little son, who is thus
compelled to go through life without the love and companionship of a
mother, the entire community extends heartfelt sympathy.
[MISS ELIZABETH GAMMILL was born in Decatur County, Iowa, May l6, l873.
Moved to Frontier County while a girl with her parents. United with the
Congregational Church in l902. Was united in marriage, March 26, l905,
to WALTER C. HALL. Died in Frontier County, Nebraska, July ll, l906]
