JOHN, son of THOMAS and S.J. HALL, died near Spring Valley, Decatur
County, Iowa, October 25, l896. He was l7 years, ll months, and l3 days
old, having been born November l2, l878. He was always a good boy, and
a regular attendant at Sunday School. Though he was not a member of any
church, yet his character was such as no professor of religion or church
member need have been ashamed to possess.
In a high degree he enjoyed the regard and friendship of his comrades
and acquaintances. Being of a loving disposition, he was sincerely
loved in return. He leaves a widowed mother and five sisters to mourn
the loss of an only son and brother, at an age when youth merging into
early manhood gave promise of that support and comfort which an
affectionate son would delight in rendering, and a devoted mother and
sisters would be equally gratified in receiving. His last illness,
though lingering and painful, was borne with great patience and
fortitude.
Funeral services were held at the house, on October 26, by ELDER DUNCAN
CAMPBELL. The Scripture lesson was from the eleventh chapter of John:
the text was the twenty-second verse of the fifteenth chapter of First
Corinthians, as follows: "For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ
shall all be made alive".
