Subject: DEATH OF MRS. H.M. HALL.
Date: Wednesday, April 11, 2001 11:26 PM
May l2, l892
The report reached here last Saturday that MRS. HALL, of Woodland
Township, had suicided by jumping into a well at her place of residence,
about 9 miles southeast of this place. On Monday, a gentleman living in
that neighborhood gave us the following account:
On last Friday evening the family had retired at the usual hour, MR.
HALL sleeping with the two older children, while his wife occupied a bed
in an adjoining room with the baby. Some time during the night, MRS.
HALL arose, leaving the child, aged about two weeks, in the bed. MR.
HALL awakened by the cries of the babe and geting up went to the room
and found the mother gone and bed cold, which shows that she must have
been gone some time. The alarm was at once given and the search
commenced, which resulted in finding a dead body of the woman in a
shallow well not far from the house. A note signed by the woman was
found, the contents which we cannot give.
The inquest was held on Monday before Squire BARR and the testimony
introduced developed the fact that she had been worrying considerable of
late about religious matters, which is probably the cause of her rash
act. The deceased leaves a husband and three small children.
