IGNACE HAINER was found dead on the road south of Davis City about a
quarter of a mile east of W.W. Bozarth's residence last Monday at l
o'clock p.m. The Wednesday previous, he had returned from St. Louis
where he had passed the winter with his daughter, MRS. VESTA CHASE.
While going to Davis City, Bert Cummings discovered the body and
promptly notified Dr. J.B. Horner who in company with J.H. Kling,
removed the remains to the Valentine Hotel. The body was afterwards
removed to the G.A.R. hall to await the arrival of relatives, and
Francis Varga, life long friend, was notified of the sad occurrence by
telephone. That gentleman immediately telegraphed the children of the
deceased and on Tuesday Ex-Congressman, E.J. HAINER of Aurora, Neb.,
arrived at noon on the K.&W. train. JULIUS C. HAINER arrived from St.
Louis on the evening train and Judge BAYARD T. HAINER of Oklahoma, came
in from the south.

IGNACE HAINER was born in Hungary about 8l years ago. He received a
thorough education and was admitted to practice law in all the courts of
his native country. During the Hungarian war for independence, MR.
HAINER became private secretary to Count Casimir Batthyanyl, minister of
foreign affairs. At the close of the war, he was imprisoned by the
Austrians for one month, when his release was secured by influential
friends. He then came to America and located in Chicago where he lived
one year. In l85l he located on a farm in New Buda Township. In l856
he was appointed professor of modern languages in the state university
of Missouri at Columbia, a position which he retained for five years.
One of his pupils was Stephen B. Elkins, now United States Senator from
West Virginia. MR. HAINER is said to have been one of the ablest Latin
scholars in this country. In l889, he visited his native land and the
principal countries of Europe. In l895 he again visited Hungary,
returning the following year.
MR. HAINER's wife resides at Aurora, Nebraska. His eldest son EUGENE J.
HAINER also resides at Aurora, has represented his district in congress
and is always of fine attainments. JULIUS C. is a graduate of the state
agricultural college of Ames and is now engaged in the practice of law
at St. Louis. A third son, BAYARD T. HAINER is United States
territorial judge of Oklahoma and the author of a legal work of
prominence. His daughters are (there are 4 listed, however the names
are not legible; cannot read them.)
The funeral services were held at Davis City today and interment
occurred in the town cemetery. Thus in the sunset of life has another
gone from our midst into the valley of the shadow. May it be into a
bright and more glorious life beyond.
