JAMES EDWIN HOCKERT was born July l3th, l867, at Pleasantville, Marion Co., Iowa; died March 9th, l900, aged 32 years, 7 months and 24 days.
At the age of two years, he with his parents, moved from Iowa to Wisconsin, returning to Decatur County in October, l886, where he has since resided. EDDIE, as he was familiarly called, was a young man of sterling manly qualities. Being of a social disposition he had endeared himself to everybody with whom he came in contact. He became a follower of Christ at the early age of l2 years and has ever lived the life required of such a profession.
Sunday, March 4, he contracted that dread disease pneumonia, which resulted in death, March 9th. He continually told his father and sister that he was going home and desired it above all else. Friday morning he asked his sister the time and on being told "half past four" he said "Just thirty minutes more" at which time his spirit took its flight to the God who gave it.
The funeral was from the house Sunday, March ll, sermon being preached by Elder Fred B. Blair, of Lamoni, to a large audience, after which his body was laid to rest beside his mother who died about five years ago, there to await the Resurrection morn.
