ELISHA HORN was born in Virginia, January 11, l827 and died at his home in Pleasanton March 3l, l899, aged 72 years, 2 months and 20 days.
When about 4 years of age he moved with his parents to Clay County, Indiana. He served during the entire time of the Mexican War in the 2nd Ind. Regiment. On Aug. 6th, l847 he was married to MISS ELIZA WALKER and in the spring of l852 he with other families came to Mercer County, Mo. where he resided until l857 when he moved to Pleasanton where he has since resided with exception of three years time when he again answered to his country's call and enlisted in the 7th Mo. Cav. and was soon promoted to the position of lst Lieutenant. He was a participant with his regiment in a number of hard fought battles both in the Mexican and Civil Wars, among them was the battle of Buena Vista under Gen. Taylor. After his term of enlistment expired he engaged in business, most of the time in mercantile trade but for a number of years in the manufacture of wagons and buggies.
About eleven years ago his eye sight and strength having partially failed him, he turned his attention to the sale of hardware in which occupation he was engaged at the time he was taken with his final sickness. He was the father of six children, all except two, WILLIAM and JOHN, have passed to the other shore.
MR. HORN was a model husband and exemplary citizen, a kind neighbor and a loyal man to his country.
He expressed himself as ready and willing to die. He had long been a member of the M.E. church, also of the G.A.R. and Masonic Order.
Funeral services were conducted Sat., April l, the funeral being in charge of the Masonic Order whose performance of the last sadness were very impressive. Many friends mourn with the bereaved wife and children the loss of this good man.
