HOPKINS.

Calla, eldest daughter of J. T. and Fannie HOPKINS, was born at Lamoni, October 15, 1881. Shed died of typhoid fever, May, 1904, while on duty as hospital nurse at the Burlington hospital, Burlington, Iowa.

Her childhood days were spent at Lamoni, after which she was employed by private families, in both Kansas City and Chicago, as nurse and juvenile instructor, which avocation seemed to be her delight.

She entered Burlington Hospital in view of completing her studies as nurse, nearly one year ago, and has seemed to merit the approval of her instructors and associates. Every consideration was shown her in her last sickness by her companion nurses and other connected with the hospital, and everything possible for humans to do was done for her relief. But the grim monster could not be shaken off.

The deceased was a member of the L. D. S. church, having been baptized when a girl. Elder Fred B. BLAIR, of that church, had charge of the funeral and the sermon was preached by Fred M. SMITH. Interment in Rose Hill Cemetery. Obsequies were held at the house of her uncle, J. F. HOPKINS, Tuesday, May 3, at ten thirty a.m.

We hereby tender our most sincere thanks to the people of Burlington, and especially those of the Burlington Hospital, for the tokens of sympathy and kindness expressed in caring for and venerating the memory of our beloved Calla, who has been taken from us by the hand of death. We highly esteem your efforts and sympathies and feel that thereby the pangs of sorrow have been measurably mollified. We also remember the friends of Calla at Leon, who have contributed to the same source of comfort, and also the friends and sympathizers at Lamoni, who have kindly rendered valuable service.
