Gammon, Anna Leah

Anna Leah Gammon, daughter of George and Martha Gammon was born near Albia, Monroe County, Iowa, September 11, 1851 and died November 19, 1940, aged 89 years, 2 months and 8 days. She came with her parents to Decatur County in 1865 settling on the farm four miles southeast of Leon. She attended the Eden Prairie school and was a member of the Algebra class which held reunions for many years, the second of the class to depart.

She was a successful teacher for several years. She gave up her chosen profession to care for her parents and after their passing, she and her other sister, maintained the home. In 1920 they moved from their home on Eden Prairie to Leon where she resided until her death. She was always willing and ready to help others and it can be truly be said her life was a life spent in service for others.

She united with the Church of Christ several years ago.

She is survived by one brother Lee of California and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and a host of friends who will mourn her departure.

Funeral services were held at the Stewart Funeral Home on Friday November 22, with Rev. A. V. Hart officiating.

Interment was in the Leon cemetery.
