Decatur County Journal

December 24, l896

On Tuesday of last week one of our honorable citizens passed away after

a long illness with stomach troubles.

THOMAS GROGAN, son of MR. and MRS. WM. GROGAN, of the Irish settlement,

was about forty years of age. Three years ago he married MISS EMMA

DILLON, daughter of THOMAS DILLON, also deceased. He leaves a widow, a

father and mother, three brothers and three sisters, with other

relatives and a host of sympathizing friends to mourn their loss. He has

lived in the immediate vicinity scarcely a year but was known and

respected by all.

On last Thursday his remains were taken to the Catholic Church, of which

he was a faithful member. His funeral was preached by Father COOK of

Malloy, after which he was laid in the cemetery at the church. A large

crowd of friends were present.
