Subject: OBITUARY - JOHN A. GOIN.

Date: Tuesday, July 03, 2001 6:54 PM

Decatur County Journal

May 3l, l900

Died, in Eden Township, May l3, l900, JOHN A. GOIN, aged 86 years, 4

months and 2l days. The subject of this sketch was born in Clayborn

County, Tenn., December 22, l8l3, where he grew to manhood. He settled

in Missouri in early life, but removed to Iowa and settled in Long Creek

Township in what was known as "Tennessee", so called from the fact that

several families from Tennessee had settled there. 'UNCLE JOHN', as he

was familiarly called, was twice married, was the father of five sons

and six daughters, all living, I believe, but one daughter.

His remains were taken to the Christian Church in "Tennessee" where

funeral services were held by the writer in the presence of a large

company of relatives and friends who had gathered to pay the last

tribute of respect to one they loved. Although 'UNCLE JOHN' had not

made a public profession of faith, his life showed that he was a

believer in Christ. He was a kind hearted old gentleman, one we always

loved to meet, and was highly esteemed by all who knew him. We have

hope in his death.

S. SAMSON.
