Decatur County Journal

ELIZABETH (AKERS) GIBSON was born in Putnam County, Ind., January 9,
l826, and died at Clarinda, Iowa, July ll, l90l, her age being 75 years,
6 months and 2 days. The parents of the deceased came west to Chariton
County, Mo., in l839, and moved again to Mercer Co., Mo., in l847.
Here
the subject of this sketch was united in marriage to GARRETT GIBSON,
November 22, l848. To this union eight children were born. Five died
in infancy and three survive--WILLIAM, CHARLES and ULYSSES, who were
present at the funeral of their mother.
Sister GIBSON became a follower of Christ 49 years ago, giving the best
years of her life to the service of her Master. She had been a great
sufferer for months, but her sufferings are ended and she is at rest.
The funeral occurred at the Christian Church, of which society Sister
GIBSON was a member, on last Saturday, being conducted by the Rev.
F.
Edwards of Osceola, after which the remains were laid to rest in the
Leon Cemetery.
Why do we mourn departing friends,
Or shake at death's alarms?
'Tis but the voice that Jesus sends
To call them to his arms.
E.E.
