GEORGE W. GASSETT was born October 26, l820, in Peterboro, New
Hampshire, and died at his late residence three miles southeast of Leon,
May 30, l903, being 82 years, 7 months and 4 days of age. He grew to
manhood in his native state. In the year l846 he came west and settled
in Jones County, Iowa. On January 7, l847, the deceased was united in
marriage to MISS MARY HODGMAN of West Townsend, Mass., in the spring of
l853 they moved to Decatur County, Iowa, where they resided until death
removed them home. At the time of his mother's death the youngest son,
SAMUEL, moved to the home place to make it still home for the surviving
parent. There are six children still living: LOTON E. of Leon; MRS.
ELMA MORRILL of Leon; MRS. NORA EIKER of Decatur; MRS. MARIA L. DYE, St.
Joseph, Mo.; SAMUEL of Leon. One son, SILAS, died at the age of
twenty-three.

MR. GASSETT was converted about forty-five years ago and united with the
Baptist Church. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. I.N. Woodward
of the Leon M.E. Church, and interment was made in the Leon Cemetery.
