MARTHA (SMITH) GORE was born in Holton County, Tennessee, Dec. 25, l8l8; died at the home of her son ZEDRIC GORE, in Leon, Iowa, Sunday, Feb. 2l, l904, at the advanced age of 85 years, l month and 26 days.

The deceased was united in marriage to JOHN GORE in Tennessee, on October 26, l837, and came to Iowa in l857, where they resided until MR. GORE's death, August 26, l884. To their union were born five children, four boys and one girl, all of whom have passed to the Great Beyond except one son, ZEDRIC GORE, of Leon, with whom she spent the last few years of her life. MRS. GORE was one of the best known residents of Decatur County, one of the early pioneers who settled here when this country was little better than a wilderness, and passed through all the privations of the early settlers. She was loved and respected by a large circle of friends, especially in the neighborhood of Davis City, where she lived for so many years.

The funeral services were held at the home on Tuesday morning at l0 o'clock, conducted by Elder H.H. Hubbell, Pastor of the Christian Church, her remains being taken to Davis City for interment by the side of her husband.

We desire to return our heartfelt thanks to the many kind friends and neighbors for their kindly acts during the sickness and death of our mother.
