ANNA A. HENRY was born in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, Nov. l7, l875, and died at the Park Hotel in Leon, Iowa, June 28, l904, aged 28 years, 7 months and 11 days.
In childhood she removed with her parents from Pennsylvania to Lacon, Illinois, and afterward to Decatur County, Iowa. She was united in marriage to JOHN GOODMAN at Jefferson, Greene County, Iowa, Feb. 5, l896. To this union two children were born, WILMA F., who died Feb. 22, l897 and GEORGE RAYMOND, who tegether with husband and father still survives. MRS. GOODMAN united with the Presbyterian Church April 23, l900, and remained a consistent member until her death.
About four years ago the subject of this sketch was greatly afflicted with an ailment, for the relief of which a surgical operation was successfully performed and for a time it was fondly hoped that she would soon regain her usual health and vigor but ere long the old affliction returned, and after months of suffering it became apparent that a second operation would be necessary. Accordingly on the 22d day of last month she was taken to the operating rooms of Dr. H.R. Layton in the Park Hotel in Leon, where everything was done to prolong her life that medical skill, kind hands and loving hearts could do; but all to no purpose. God had otherwise decreed and early in the afternoon of June 28 her spirit took its flight.
The remains were conveyed to her late home the same evening and on the following Thursday at one o'clock the funeral was held from the residence. Services were conducted by her Pastor, W.A. Montgomery, and was attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives, friends and neighbors, attesting the high esteem in which she was held by the entire community. Interment was made in the cemetery adjacent to the German Baptist Church in Center Township.
God has called a loved one from us,
To His own divine abode,
And our hearts are sad and lonely
As we walk life's weary road.
But the still, sweet voice of Jesus
To our waiting ear is borne,
Saying, she will rise in glory
On that resurrection morn.
Then our souls are filled with rapture,
Though we pass beneath the sod,
For we feel that she is happy
In the paradise of God.
A CARD -- We desire to return our heartfelt thanks to the many kind friends who did everything in their power to aid us during the illness of our beloved wife and mother. The little deeds of kindness and sympathy extended will never be forgotten.
--JOHN GOODMAN and SON.
