GILLEN.
At her home, Lamoni, Iowa, April 30, 1904, Mrs. Nancy (MOORE) GILLEN, wife of James W. GILLEN. She was born in 1852, near Council Bluffs, Iowa. She removed with her father, A. B. MOORE, to Utah and Idaho, where at Malad City, Idaho she met and in 1867 married Elder J. W. GILLEN, then a missionary in the Rocky Mountain field. Thence they moved to Alameda county California, where they lived till 1873, when they started east and stopped for a season in Montana, whence in 1876 traveling by team they came to Iowa, settling in Fayette township, Decatur county, finally making a home in Lamoni, where she died.
Mrs. GILLEN was a missionary's wife, and as such made the needful sacrifice of her husband's absence from home with the grace and devoted fortitude of a Christian follower. She was a faithful mother, loved by her family and respected by her neighbors. Of her it may safely be said "She hath done what she could."
Funeral services at the home in charge of John SMITH, prayer by F. B. BLAIR, sermon by Joseph SMITH. The remains were laid to rest in Rose Hill cemetery, May 3 in the presence of many of the relatives and friends of the family.
