OBITUARY

CLOYD VANDEL FOLAND

 

Cloyd Vandel FOLAND, the eighth child of Alva Albert and Ella (McCONNELL) FOLAND, was born Jan. 31, 1914, in Decatur County [Iowa] and died at the Leon Care Center on July 29, 1995. He was 81. After the death of his mother when he was 19 months old, he made his home with his sisters and brothers and an aunt, Lula JONES. He married Doris STUBBS in 1936, and they became the parents of four children: Richard Cloyd, Peggy Ileen, Ronald Roe, and Gary Gene.

 

Mr. FOLAND became a farmer three years after he was married and farmed until he retired and moved to Decatur where he ran a Case dealership. After many strokes and an extended illness he made his home at the Leon Care Center.

 

Preceding him in death were his parents; one daughter, Peggy, and one son, Gary; two brothers Orvall and Lloyd; and three sisters Mertie DAVIS, Belva COX, and Marie KRAFT.

 

Mr. FOLAND is survived by his wife, two sons, Richard FOLAND and his wife Ada Belle FOLAND, Ronald FOLAND and his wife Sandy FOLAND, and one daughter-in-law, Debbie FOLAND, all of Leon; seven grandchildren: Anita LEEPER and her husband Roger LEEPER of Leon, Kimberly THORNTON and her husband Steve THORNTON of Ruffin, N.C., Tamara FOLAND, Renita GARY and her husband Dan Gray, Jeff FOLAND, DeeDee WHITE and her husband Jerid WHITE and Chad FOLAND; 10 great-grandchildren: Andrew and Amanda LEEPER, Jessica and Joshua JUNCKER, Jamie, Wendi and Rusty NORRIS, Brandi and Daniell GRAY and Ciera WHITE; two sisters, Eva BEARDSLEY of Denver, Colo. and Bernice FROST of Mount Ayr; a host of sisters and brother-in-law; nieces and nephews; and many friends.

 

Funeral services for Mr. FOLAND were Aug. 1 at Slade-O’Donnell Funeral home in Leon with the Rev. Larry OWENS officiating. Musc selections were Old Rugged Cross, If Tomorrow Never Comes, and Wish You Were Here. Casket bearers were Chad FOLAND, Jeff FOLAND, Dan GRAY, Roger LEEPER, Jamie NORRIS and Jerid WHITE. Interment was in the Decatur Cemetery.

 

 A memorial fund has been established by the family.
