Decatur County Journal
July 25, l90l

ED EVERSHED died at Creston on Wednesday of last week aged about 60
years. The Gazette says that MR. EVERSHED was formerly one of the
leading merchants of Creston. He came from Marion Iowa, with Ed Derr in
l874 and engaged in the grocery business. The business prospered but
about twelve years ago, MR. EVERSHED went to Kansas City where reverses
came and he lost his property.

He served in the Twentieth Iowa Infantry. He was the only man in the
history of Union County who declined a nomination on the Republican
ticket for Representative. He was always an ardent Republican and took
an interest in political matters. He leaves four children, two sons and
two daughters. Both sons reside in Wyoming.
