ELIZABETH A. NELSON was born in Madison County, Ind., February l8, l842,
and died at the home of her daughter, MRS. F.L. JENKINS, in this city,
September l3, l906, age 64 years, 6 months and 25 days.
March l7, l860, she was married to JOSIAH MCCUTCHEAN in Wayne County. To
this union ten children were born, five girls and five boys. Two boys
and one girl died in early life. The living children are: MRS. CLARA J.
PRICE, Cripple Creek, Col.; MRS. MARY HAZLET, Leon; MRS. ELLA HINES,
Grand River; MRS. F.L. JENKINS, Leon; JAMES and SANFORD MCCUTCHEAN,
Bellfield, N.D., DAVE MCCUTCHEAN, of Leon.
JOSIAH MCCUTCHEAN died April 3, l89l, and August 24 l902, MRS.
MCCUTCHEAN married E.G. EVANS, who died March l2, l906. MRS. EVANS was
taken ill February l8, l906, on her 64th birthday. She was ill almost
seven months.
About 42 years ago, she moved with her family to the homestead eight
miles southeast of Leon, where they lived until the death of MR.
MCCUTCHEAN. The next fall she came to Leon which has been her home ever
since excepting about two years. At the time of her coming to Iowa, she
united with the Eden Prairie Church being a charter member of which she
remained a faithful member to the time of her death. Her aim was always
to please and help others, and during her long sickness she was a very
patient sufferer. It was a joy to her that all of her children could be
with her at some time during the greater part of her illness.
