Date: Friday, July 06, 2001 6:41 PM
Decatur County Journal
October ll, l900
The subject of this sketch was born in Crab Orchard, Ky., Sept. l2,
l823, and died at his home in Pleasanton, Iowa, Sept. 28, l900, aged 77
years and l6 days. At the age of 9 years he moved to southern Iowa
where he grew to manhood. He was married to MARY J. RANDOLPH, Sept. ll,
l845, and with her moved to Mercer County, Mo., near Freedom, where they
lived until one year ago when they moved to Pleasanton, Iowa. To this
union were born l2 children, two of whom are dead. All the others with
the mother are living.
Father ELMORE, as he was familiarly called, was converted at the age of
9 years and commenced preaching while quite a young man. At the age of
35 he was ordained a minister in the Baptist Church at Freedom, Mo., in
which congregation he labored faithfully until about six years ago when
he joined the Church of Christ in Christian Union and remained a
faithful member until death.
The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Burris of Cainsville, Mo., and
the remains laid to rest in Freedom cemetery. Besides his wife and
children, he leaves thirty-five grandchildren and seventeen great
grandchildren, and a host of friends to mourn his loss, but they do not
mourn as those having no hope but feel that their loss is Heaven's gain.
REV. WEAVER.
