JAMES EARLY was born in Canada in l827. He was married in l854 to JANE

ANN MCDONALD, who died April 9, l89l, in Jasper County, Iowa. He was

married to the surviving widow, ELLEN COOK, in the year l89l. He was

the oldest of five children, three of whom are still living. He came to

Decatur County about four years ago, first residing at Decatur City,

afterward at Davis City, and about two years ago, he moved to Leon,

where he died at noon, Monday, January 30, l899.

He was converted and joined the U.P. Church many years ago, and united

with the Methodist Church upon settling in this county. He died in full

hope of eternal life with Christ.

He was a member of the 9th Iowa Cavalry, Co. K, and served about three

years.

The funeral service was conducted from the Methodist Church, Tuesday

afternoon at 2 o'clock, in charge of Leon post, No. 25l, G.A.R., of

which the deceased was a member, and the remains were interred in the

Leon Cemetery. The sermon was delivered by Rev. J.F. Gibson, Pastor of

the Methodist Church.
