This community was surprised and shocked on last Saturday morning by the sudden death of HINCHMAN ENGLE an old citizen and old soldier, at his home 3 l/2 miles northwest of Lineville. It was not known generally that he was ill, having been attacked by acute bowel trouble only a day or two before. The disease from which he suffered had its origin during his services as a soldier in the Union Army.
The deceased was born in Mahoning County, Ohio. July 25, l836, was married to MARTHA JANE PHILLIPS in that State in l861. His wife died about l5 years ago. Five children were born to them, four of whom are now living. He leaves two brothers, N.M. ENGLE of this place, AARON ENGLE, of Iola, Kan., and a sister who resides near Council Bluffs, Iowa. He served about two years as a soldier in an Ohio regiment during the Civil War and was a pensioner at the time of his death. He professed religion and joined the Bible Christian Church many years ago in Ohio and adhered to the faith to the time of his death.
The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon from his late home, services being conducted by his neighbors, S.J. SHAW assisted by J.W. JUDD, and the interment was at the Elm Cemetery beside the remains of his wife. The family expressed gratitude for the help and sympathy extended to them in their time of bereavement.
