At the age of 2l she was converted and united with the Christian Church
at Van Wert, where she remained a faithful member until her membership
was transferred to the church triumphant. During her last days
of
suffering she testified to her readiness to meet her Savior.
On June 30, l887, she was married to WILLIAM S. DEVORE of Van Wert and
in this vicinity the family had made their home these 44 years.
To this
union were born ten children: HARRY, CLYDE, CLAIR, WILLIE, SPENCER,
ERNEST and LEO, of Van Wert, and JOHN of Woodburn. Two children,
a son
and daughter, died in infancy. Besides these eight sons, who
never fail
to give her every attention their presence could give during her entire
illness, she leaves her devoted husband, one sister, MRS. WILL MCJIMSEY,
and four brothers, WILLIAM, ROBERT and JOHN PALMER of Van Wert and
FRANK
PALMER of Humeston; thirteen grandchildren and many other relatives
and
friends to mourn their loss.
A kind and affectionate wife and mother, always thoughtful of others,
bore her suffering with unusual patience. Always talking of wanting
to
go to her eternal home. She had no fear of death for she made
plans for
her own funeral. Her friends were numbered by her acquaintances.
A precious one from us has gone, a voice we loved is stilled; a place
is
vacant in our home, which never can be filled.
Funeral services were held at the Christian Church, Van Wert, July 24th,
by her pastor REV. B. CREWDSON, assisted by the Methodist Pastor, JAMES
BUIKEMA, and her neighbor and friend, MR. H.O. TUTTLE. Interment
was
made in the Van Wert Cemetery beside her two babies to await His coming.
