Decatur County Journal

After suffering intense (can't read)months, MRS. H.D. DYE was carried
to
her eternal home beyond the dark river of death. The first symptoms
of
the disease was a great, deep longing for home. We look at the picture
as it hangs in her home of the little old log cabin where she spent
the
first years of her married life, and in fancy we could see the little
ones gathered around her as she told them the beautiful story of Jesus
and the home beyond. Time weakened the frame of that little cabin and
it is gone, but the picture remains. Time weakened the physical frame
and the soul returned to its God, but the picture of a noble life
remained, chiseled in the hearts of those who loved her most.
Deceased was born in New York, June 20, l832, and was united in marriage
to HERVEY D. DYE April 2l, l852. To them were born eight children,
a
boy dying in childhood. Her husband, one son, C.C. DYE, of Decatur
County, six daughters, MRS. ELLA WINLAND; MRS. OLIVE HUTCHINSON, of
Humeston; MRS. EVA SAMSON, of Riley, Kansas; MRS. LETTIE HAMILTON,
Wayne
County; MISS CORA B. DYE, of Des Moines; MRS. NELLIE BEAVERS, of
Woodland, are left to mourn her loss. She was a faithful and devoted
wife, a kind and affectionate mother and a true friend.
When a child, HANNAH KAY moved to Sisterville, W.Virginia. She was
converted and united with the Baptist Church at the age of seventeen,
giving God her heart and a life of service. Here she was married to
HERVEY D. DYE. In l855, they moved to Decatur County, Iowa. She helped
organize the Highland Baptist Church and was a faithful member forty-six
years. She moved to Humeston two years ago. She loved so well her God
and his Word that even when death had dimmed her eyes and chilled her
hands, she wanted her Bible. "I cannot see, but I can feel it." Oh,
blessed, thrice blessed are they that die in the Lord. She will be
missed by her many friends, but by none so much as those left in her
late home where her chair is now vacant and that motherly voice is
heard
no more. All that loving human hands could possibly do was done to
prolong her stay and ease the pain, then God in tender mercy said it
is
enough, come up to thy reward, and she peacefully, gladly obeyed the
summons and her soul awakened to a brighter dawn than ours.
Funeral services were conducted by her Pastor, Rev. Perry, from the
Baptist Church in Humeston, Friday at ll o'clock. December 8, l905.
The esteem in which she had been held was attended by the numerous
beautiful and tastefully arranged floral designs at the funeral.
Farewell, farewell, thy labors here are o'er
And sweetly on the other shore
Thou are resting by the quiet stream
Where Heavenly glories brightly gleam.
Farewell, farewell, thy parting is not long,
Swift moves the years and days along,
Not dead, but only gone before,
Soon we shall meet on Zion's bright shore.
