Subject: OBITUARY - JOHN DUNBAR.

JOHN DUNBAR, an active and enterprising farmer, who died Nov. 29 in

Bloomington Township, was born in Marion County, Ohio, May 3l, l839.

His parents, JOSEPH and MARY (KEPNER) DUNBAR were both from

Pennsylvania. He came to Decatur County in l860, purchased a farm which

he afterwards sold and purchased the farm where his family resides. In

l862 he enlisted in Co. l 34th Iowa Infantry, and participated in many a

hard fought battle. He received an honorable discharge at Davenport,

Iowa, Dept. l5, l865, when he returned to Decatur County, May 5, l868.

He was united in marriage to MISS MARY RAUCH, a daughter of ANTHONY and

BETSY RAUCH.

He leaves a wife and four children, two boys and two girls, to mourn his

death. He was an upright citizen, a loving husband, a kind and

affectionage father. After suffering untold agony for over one year

from cancers on his lip and face, he approached the end with joy, having

made his peace with God, fought his last battle and received an

honorable discharge from his earthly labors.

The funeral was conducted by Rev. W.H. Peron at the home of the

deceased, Dec. lst, after which his remains were laid away to rest in

Elk Cemetery.
