Subject: OBITUARY - JOHN DAVIS.

December 29, l898

JOHN DAVIS was born in Highland County, Ohio, September l2, l839, and

died December l9, l898, at the age of 59 years, 3 months and 7 days.

He came to this county in l856, hence was one of the early settlers. On

October 7, l859, he was married to MARIA JEWETT, to which union nine

children were born, CORDELIA A., JOHN D., JOSEPH L., NARCISSUS A., JAMES

O., CLAYTON D., MILIA J., GRACE E., MARY C. Three of these have

preceded the father in death.

He enlisted in Company K, 89th Regiment of Iowa Infantry Volunteers; was

enrolled on the 22nd day of August, l862, and was discharged from

services May l9, l865. He has been summoned to the final roll call, and

his testimony to the last showed his perfect readiness to enter into the

joys of his Lord.

We recognize in his departure the loss of a good citizen, a kind friend

and an upright man.

He leaves a companion, three sisters, two brothers, and six children,

besides a host of friends to mourn his loss. The funeral services were

conducted at the Union Church, where a large audience of friends had

assembled to pay the last token of respect.
