THOMAS T. DAVENPORT was born in Washington County, Va., June l7, l829, and died in Decatur County, Iowa, May 23, l904, being 74 years, 11 months and 6 days of age. He was united in marriage to MAHALA GATSON Nov. 28, l866. To this union were born l3 children, namely 8 boys and 5 girls, 3 of the children having preceded their father to the better land. The deceased has been a resident of Iowa for 40 years and a resident of Decatur County for l2 years.

He united with the Baptist Church at an early age and has been a consistent Christian all his life. His last words were, "The Lord's Will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven." His death has removed from the community a good neighbor and caused the wife and children to be bereft of a kind husband and father. Funeral services were conducted at the late residence by H.H. Bennett and M.I. Powers and the body was laid to rest in the Decatur City Cemetery.
