Obituary ~ Jon Lee Crees
November 28, 1937 ~ August 24, 2015
Jon Lee Crees, age 77, of Grand River, Iowa, the son of Paul Bryan and Inez Ethel (Grimm) Crees, was born November 28, 1937 at Grand River, Iowa. He died on Monday, August 24, 2015, at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa.
Jon grew up and attended school in Grand River. Following graduation in 1955, he started working as a cowboy at the Shadbolt Ranch in the Sand Hills of Nebraska. After a number of years there, he worked on ranches in Florida and Colorado before returning to Iowa after a back injury. His brother, Jim, trained him to splice cables for the phone company serving the Slater, Madrid, Grimes, and Granger, Iowa area. Later Jon started his own business in the same line of work. He retired around the year 2000.
In his free time, Jon enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and most outdoor activities.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Joyce Crees and Joy Weir; brothers, Jerry Crees and Jim Crees; and sister-in-law, Maxine Crees.
Survivors include his brothers, Joe Crees of Billings, Montana, David Crees of Des Moines, Iowa, and Jesse Crees and wife Teresa of Gilbert, Arizona; brother-in-law, Ed Weir of Grand River; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the Slade - O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, August 30, 2015, with Pastor Rick Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Grand River, Iowa.
