Obituary ~ Sylvian "Syl" Cole obituary
May 01, 1912 ~ Februrary 23, 1999

Sylvian “Syl” COLE, son of James A. and Minnie Armina (FOLAND) COLE, was born May 1, 1912 at Grand River and died Feb. 23, 1999 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines. He was 86.

Mr. COLE served in the U. S. Navy from 1934 to 1938. He married Florence CROSBY on April 22, 1939, and they became the parents of two children. Florence died in 1983.

Following his tour in the service, Mr. COLE was employed by Dr. HARKEN for two years before joining the Great Lakes Pipeline and Plantation Pipeline in Mississippi. He returned to Iowa to farm in 1945. In addition to farming, he sold Walnut Grove Feed. He retired in 1973 and moved to Osceola.

He married Lucille BROWN on Oct. 22, 1984. The couple liked to eat out, play cards and go to dances.

In addition to his wife, Florence COLE, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Elmer E. COLE and Kenneth COLE, and a sister, Ardetta GEORGE.

Mr. COLE is survived by his wife Lucille COLE of Osceola; a son Ronald COLE of Afton; a daughter Judith WOLVER and her husband Raymond WOLVER of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Barbara Jane BURIC and her husband John BURIC of Phoenix, Ariz., and Robert Eugene WOLVER of Des Moines; two great-grandchildren, Michael and Adam BURIC of Phoenix; two brothers, Mendall C. “Ty” COLE of Madrid [Iowa] and Don COLE of Osceola; a sister Berndena MUNGER of Marshalltown; as well as other relatives and a host of friends.

Services for Mr. COLE will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday (Feb. 26) at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, the Rev. John FROST will officiate. Organist Pennie GONSETH will accompany soloist Chuck DeVOS as he sings Amazing Grace and How Great Thou Art.

Casket bearers are Dennis COLE, Danny COLE, Dale HEMBRY, Robert Eugene WOLVER, Scott MAY, and Gale KINDRED. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery at Osceola.
