Obituary ~ Roy Clawson
February 12, 1891 ~ November 21, 1985

Roy CLAWSON, son of Frank and Rebecca (BURCHETT) CLAWSON, was born February 12, 1891 at Grand River, Decatur County, Iowa, and passed away November 21, 1985, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 94 years, nine months and nine days. He received his education in the Decatur County and Kansas City, Kansas schools.

Roy and his parents lived only two miles from Tressie EMLEY and her parents. Roy and Tressie went to the same school and also attended the same Sunday School at the Tennessee Church. On October 28, 1914, Roy and Tressie were united in marriage in Leon. Together they farmed in the Grand River area [approximately 1/8 of a mile east of the Homer and Pearl Veva (BRAMON) FOLAND farm] for 56 years, then in 1970, when they were ready to retire, they moved to Osceola and bought a home. Throughout his lifetime, Roy was always able to see the bright side of any situation and he always enjoyed visiting with his friends, especially in his retirement years. Roy was a member of the Tennessee Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Tressie on February 18, 1985; two brothers Arden CLAWSON and Carl CLAWSON; and two sisters, Edna CLAWSON and Ella (CLAWSON) JONES.

He leaves to cherish his memory, five nieces: Irene DALE of Warren, Michigan; Faye DeVORE of Lakewood, California; Beulah THOMAS of Leon; Elaine ALBAUGH of Decatur; Janice COFFEY of Manhattan, Kansas; three nephews, Hayden JONES of Lawrence, Kansas; Frank JONES of Fullerton, California,; Eldon CLAWSON of Topeka, Kansas; two sisters-in-law, Ruby CLAWSON of Decatur and Alice CLAWSON of Topeka, Kansas; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 25, 1985 [in the middle of a terrible sleet storm] at 11:00 a.m. in the Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Rev. Neville CLAYTON of Osceola officiated at the service. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola [Iowa].
