Obituary ~ Dale L. Chidester
March 08, 1926 ~ August 19, 2002

Dale L. Chidester, son of Paul Chidester and Louva Bell Allen Chidester, was born March 8, 1926, in Eagle, Neb. and died Aug. 19, 2002, at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines. He was 76.

He grew up in Eagle, Neb. and moved with his family to a farm west of LeRoy when he was 15. He graduated from LeRoy High School in 1943. Mr. Chidester served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He married Beverly Rose Curnes on Aug. 17, 1947, at the Osceola First Christian Church. The couple moved to a farm east of Weldon. They became the parents of four children, Mary, Christine, David and Donald. Mrs. Chidester died at their home on Oct. 3, 1997. Mr. Chidester was still living in his home.

Mr. Chidester was a farmer and worked as a soil conservation technician for the Soil Conservation Services for 30 years. He was a member of the Smyrna Friends Church. He served as a Smyrna Cemetery trustee for many years.

In addition to his wife Mr. Chidester was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Donald and a sister Eva Bell Everett.

He is survived by his two daughters, Mary Suko and her husband, Aaron Suko, of Oregon and Christine Mortenson and her husband, Dan Mortenson, of Urbandale; a son, David Chidester and his wife, Kathy Chidester, of McCallsburg; four grandchildren, Aaron Mortenson of Urbandale, Christopher Chidester, Rebecca Chidester, and Elizabeth Chidester, all of McCallsburg; as well as other relatives and a host of friends.

A memorial service will be held on Aug. 24 at Smyrna Friends Church at Smyrna [Clarke County, Iowa] with Pastor Erwin Cook officiating. Organist,Virginia Reynolds will accompany Kay Hayden as she sings In the Garden.

Interment of the cremains will be in the Smyrna Cemetery with Kale Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
