Tuesday, April 06, 2010

Howard Leslie Cattell, age 85, of rural Corydon, Iowa, passed away at the Corydon Nursing and Rehab Center on Monday, March 29, 2010. The son of Clarence Alfred and Nellie Carolyn (Losey) Cattell was born January 18, 1925, at Mildred, Montana.

In 1932 Howard and his family traveled from Montana by horse and wagon to settle in Decatur County, Iowa, where Nine Eagles Lake is now. He went to school in Pleasanton, Iowa, then started working on farms in the area for hire.

On March 5, 1945, he and Darlene Dora Morine eloped to Lawrence, Kansas. They shared 65 years of marriage and raised six children. Howard worked at General Mills in Avon Lake and lived in rural Carlisle, Iowa from 1956 until 1969. From there the family moved to the Chariton, Lucas County, Iowa area and finally to rural Corydon. Howard enjoyed farming and being outdoors taking care of his livestock. He always said his best crop was his six children.

Preceding him in death were his parents, daughter Patty Cattell, grandson Chad Moon, and brothers, Alfred and Charles Cattell.
