Obituary ~ Donald Ray "Don" Carson
August 06, 1923 ~ August 17, 2015
Donald Ray Carson, son of Frank Carson and Margaret Elizabeth (Porterfield) Carson was born August 6, 1923 at the family farm north of Woodburn, Iowa and passed from this life Monday, August 17, 2015 at Clarke County Hospital at 92 years of age.
Don was with the Army Engineers in Korea the fall of 1946 and the summer of 1947. After his tour of duty, he returned to the farm.
On January 1st, 1955, he married Frances Leone Smith at Van Wert, Iowa. They made their home on a farm north of Ottawa for eight years. During these years Don was employed at the Osceola Greenhouse. In April of 1962, he started his own floral shop [Don's Floral Shop] in Leon, Iowa, which he operated for 20 years. At that time he sold the shop and retired to their home in Weldon, Iowa.
Don was always busy with his hobbies of flowers, birds and the dance band “Rhythm Dusters”, which was started by his late wife, Frances in the late 1970's and early 1980's. After her death, October 28, 1986, he kept the band going at her request.
Those relatives who preceded Don in death were his parents; wife, Frances; sisters, Edith Thornton, Corda Canney, Bernice Page; brother, Harold Carson; brothers-in-law, Russell Thornton, Donald Canney, David Page; niece, Leah Canney Cook.
Donald leaves to cherish his memory; 5 nephews, John (Karen) Page of Osceola, IA, Merrill (Lou) Thornton of Urbandale, IA, Nelson (MaryAnn) Thornton of Winterset, IA, Mike (Deanna) Carson of Woodburn, IA, Raymond (Vicky) Carson of Chandler, AZ., close friend Barbara Williams from Corydon, IA, as well as other relatives and many friends.
Graveside services were conducted at 10:30 a.m., August 20, 2015, at Garden Grove Cemetery, Garden Grove, Iowa.
