Obituary ~ Timothy James "Tim" Calanca
December 30, 1940 ~ July 22, 2013
Timothy J. Calanca, Sr., a resident of Grand River, passed away July 22, 2013 after a several years battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born December 30, 1940 to the late Angelo and Ethel Calanca of Round Lake, Illinois.
Tim served in the Vietnam War as a green beret. He was a member of Osceola Lodge #77 A.F.& A.M. and the Grand River American Legion. Tim was a firefighter for many years both in Illinois and Iowa and was proud to have served as Chief of the Grand River Fire Department for many years until his illness. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
Though he grew up in Illinois, he was the happiest here in Iowa with its beautiful landscapes, wildlife and caring, loving friends and neighbors.
Tim is survived by his wife, Kathy who shared the happiness of a blended family of their children; Timothy Calanca, Jr.; Angelo (Lindsay) Calanca; Megan (Tony) Sacchetti; Brenda Cunningham and Adam (Rae) Wintz. Their children blessed them with eleven grandchildren, Tim, Samantha, Kristyn, Danielle, Anthony, Addison, Katie, Matthew, Vanessa, Holly and Patrick. Also surviving are two sisters, Angela Blasarius and Julie Laskowski.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Patricia Laskowski and Mary Calanca along with the heartbreak of his cherish grandchild Danielle Sacchetti.
Tim leaves cherishing all who entered his life and he will be missed so very much by us all.
