February 25, l892

The subject of this sketch was born in Warren County, Indiana, December
8, l84l, and died at his home in Morgan Township, Decatur County, Iowa,
February l6, l892, being at the time of his death, 50 years, 2 months
and 8 days old.  The disease of which he died was la grippe; the
immediate cause of death being heart failure.

Deceased came to this county with his parents in l854 and resided here
continuously to the time of his death.  He served three years in the
army during the rebellion, being a member of Company L. 7th Missouri
Cavalry.  He held many offices of trust in his township, having been a
justice of the peace for almost twenty years.  He was a man of sterling
qualities.  Warm hearted and generous, he was always ready to lend a
helping hand to those in sickness or distress.

In his death his family has lost a kind and affectionate husband and
father, and the community a true and noble citizen.  He leaves a wife,
six children, an aged mother, four brothers and three sisters to mourn
his loss.  No funeral service was held on account of the dangerous
illness of one of his children.  His remains were followed by a large
concourse of friends to the Dale Cemetery, where they were laid to rest
to await the resurrection morning.
