Obituary ~ Carrie Campbell
April 15, 1862 ~ April 01, 1901
Decatur County Journal
Leon, Decatur County, Iowa
April 18, 1901
In Eden Township, Decatur County, on Monday, April 1st, the redeemed spirit of CARRIE CAMPBELL took its flight from the tenement of clay for the mansions of the blest to be forever with the Lord. She was born April 15th, 1862, in Eden Township, Decatur County, and was married April 19, 1882, at the same place, to JAMES K. CAMPBELL who has proved to be an unusually devoted husband, whom she leaves with four sons, CLYDE V., WILLIAM, ARTHUR and MACEY to mourn her premature decease. For five years she had been a patient sufferer with that fell disease consumption, but she met the decree of providence with a brave heart and an uncomplaining spirit.
It was a touching scene, when on April 29, 1900, she and her husband gave themselves to the Savior, at her bedside, united with the M.E. Church and received the sacrament at the hands of Rev. Joseph Stephen.
She was laid to rest at her own request on the home farm. The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. W.H. Ilsley in the unavoidable absence of our pastor.
Her "sun went down while it was yet day." But as she descended the western slope of life, she had a calm and unfaltering faith in God. The sun of her life set in a sea of glory, and is but a prophecy of what the sunrise will be in another world. She was "made perfect through suffering." Peace be to her memory.
Note: Carrie is listed with the Leon Cemetery transcript.
