Decatur County Journal

June 6, l907

ROBERT CORNETT, an aged and respected citizen of our town, died very

suddenly Monday morning of congestion of the lungs. He went to bed

Sunday evening feeling as well as usual, and his granddaughter, who

keeps house for him, on arising Monday morning thought it strange that

he was sleeping so late but hearing him as she supposed snoring,

prepared breakfast then called him, but hearing no response went to his

bed to find him very near death's door. She summoned help at once but

nothing could be done for him as he passed away in a few minutes.

This was quite a shock to our community, especially his granddaughter,

MINNIE JONES, who has made her home with him since infancy, and his

children, CHAS. CORNETT and MESDAMES VINCENT and DAVIS, also his

step-children, W.B. OWENS and MRS. MOORE.

"UNCLE BOB", as he was familiarly known, will be sadly missed by all who

knew him. His wife, REBECCA CORNETT, preceded him to the haven of rest

on August 24, l906, thus the children have been deprived of mother and

father in less than a year. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of the

entire community. The funeral services were held in the L.D.S. Church,

Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Elder D. Campbell, after which his body

was placed to rest beside his wife in the Eastin Cemetery southwest of
