WM. COMBS, an old settler, died at his home in this town last Wednesday

morning. He leaves a large family, some of them quite small. UNCLE

BILLY, as he was called by his friends, was born in Canada and came to

this country when a young man and has lived here ever since. He spent

some time in Illinois but finally came to this state and county where he

married MARY YOUNS, who survives him. He was an honest and hard working

man, his life being spent at hard work. It was his boast that he always

had a dollar ahead.

There is hardly a household in this vicinity but what has employed UNCLE

BILLY, as he was always ready to do odd jobs of any kind and done it

well. He was never sick or had taken any medicine in all his life,

until his last illness which only lasted a few days, brought on by an

attack of la grippe, terminating in pneumonia which caused his death.

His funeral was held at the Baptist Church, Rev. J.N. Edwards,

officiating. His remains were laid to rest in the Young Cemetery.
