Decatur County Journal
April ll, l90l

HOMER EMERSON CHERRINGTON was born in Decatur County, Iowa, Jan. 4,
l879; departed this life March 24, l90l. He was a son of MR. and MRS.
C.K. CHERRINGTON, of Decatur City, Iowa. HOMER was sick three days with
la grippe. Through all his suffering he was very patient and
uncomplaining.

HOMER met with an accident when four years old and when eight years of
age he had the scarlet fever which, with the injury received from a
fall, laid the foundation for an ailment which increased in severity
until he became helpless. For the past fourteen years he has been
helpless, but with all his suffering he was most patient and
uncomplaining, always seeming to look on the bright side of life and
taking all things for the best. Discouragement was a term unknown to
him.

The funeral services took place Monday, March 25th, at 3:30 o'clock
p.m., from the M.E. Church, conducted by the pastor and the remains were
laid to rest in the Decatur City Cemetery.

Gently, Lord, O gently lead us,
Pilgrims in this vale of tears,
Through the trials yet decreed us,
Till our last great change appears.
When temptation's darts assail us,
When its devious paths we stay,
Let thy goodness never fail us,
Lead us in thy perfect way.

In the hour of pain and anguish,
In the hour when death draws near,
Suffer not our hearts to languish,
Suffer not our souls to fear.
And, when mortal life is ended,
Bid us in thine arms to rest,
Till, by angel bands attended,
We awake among the blest.
