HOWELL LEWIS CHANDLER was born in the state of North Carolina July ll,

l8l8, but removed to Virginia in l834. In l839 he was married to MARTHA

PACE, after which they removed to Ohio, where they resided for sixteen

years. From thence they moved to Iowa. To them were born ten childen,

seven of whom are still living. His wife, MARTHA CHANDLER, died

September l5, l88l. He was again united in marriage to SARAH L. MILAM,

May 28, l883, who still survives him.

The deceased united with the Brethren Church in l848. His death

occurred December 4, l898, at which time he was 80 years, 4 months and

23 days of age.
