Decatur County Journal
June l6, l898
RACHEL JOLLEY was born November l9, l8l4, in Nichols County, Ky., and
was married to ROBT. S. CAMPBELL, February 6 l834. Soon after marriage,
she moved to Boone County, Indiana, and in the year l855, moved to
Decatur County, Iowa, at which place she has resided ever since.
In early life she joined the Dunkard Church and in the year l84l united
with the M.E. Church, of which she lived a consistent member until
death.
She was the mother of nine children, five of whom are still living.
There are twenty-eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
On the 25th of April she was taken sick and was confined to he bed until
the 2nd of June, the time of her death. During her sickness she was
patient in her suffering, giving many evidences of her implicit faith in
Christ as her Savior, also telling those in attendance that she was not
afraid to die. She was perfectly resigned to the will of God.
The funeral services were conducted at the M.E. Church Friday, June 3.
The remains were interred in the Wodmansee Cemetery in the presence of
many of her friends, who are left to mourn her loss.
How appropriate to the close of her life are these words from Proverbs:
"The hoary head is a crown of glory if it be found in the way of
righteousness".
E.O. NEWLAND.
