EMELINE SWANK COZAD was born in Warren Co., Ohio, May the 29th, l82l. Died at her home in Morgan Township June 24th, l902, being at the time of her death 8l years and 26 days old. At the age of 9 years, she moved with her parents to Warren Co., Indiana. She was married to AARON COZAD May, l849; to this union were born ten children: JACOB A., JOHN S., of Moulton, Iowa; AARON A., of Pleasanton, Iowa; JAMES H., WILLIAM C., MRS. SARAH R. WOODS, of Weldon, Iowa; LUCINDA J., MRS. MARY E. DUNHAM, JOSEPHINE E. and JOSEPH A.

They moved to Decatur County, Nov., l854, and entered the farm on which she lived at the time of her death, she was one of the early settlers as there were very few farms entered in Morgan Township at that time. Her husband died Aug. the 30th, l869, and four children, JOSEPH A., LUCINDA J., JACOB A. and JAMES H., have preceded her to the Great Beyond. She has two sisters, MRS. POLLY HARRIS, of Redbluff, California, who is 93 years of age and MRS. NANCY BALES, of Hyattville, Kansas, who is 73 years old, 6 children, 22 grandchildren and l2 great grandchildren, besides a host of friends are left to mourn her departure.

She, in an early day, united with the M.E. Church at what was known as the Broadbook School House and lived a consistent Christian the rest of her life. It can be said of her she has fought the fight, finished her work and gone to her reward. The last few years of her life were spent with her daughters, MRS. EMMA DUNHAM and MISS JOSIE, who has been faithful in the care of their aged mother; feeble and almost blind, she never complained of her lot and as she neared the end, expressed herself as ready and willing to go when the Lord called her.

There was prayer and a song service conducted at the house, her favorite song "My Savior First of All" being one of the number. She was followed to the Dale Cemetery by a large concourse of friends and laid beside her husband, June 25th, to await the resurrection morn. The family has the sympathy of the community in this their hour of sorrow.
