OBITUARY.
Martha M. CHERRY was born March 20th, 1832 in Muskingum county Ohio; was united in marriage to Wm. H. BARNTHOUSE, August 23, 1860 at New Concord, Ohio; removed to Jackson county Iowa, in 1863, afterwards to Van Burren Co. and in 1876 to Decatur Co., where they have since resided. Five children were born to them, of whom the eldest and the youngest are still living; the former, Matthew R. located at De Soto, Mo., the latter, Mrs. F. H. MATTHEWS of this place. Mrs. BARNTHOUSE was baptized in infancy as a member of the Associate Reformed (Seceder) Presbyterian church, and early in life was received into full communion. She was afterwards a member of the U. P. church, until the year 1885, when she became a member of the Presbyterian church of Garden Grove, Iowa, which was then under the pastoral charge of Robert BEER. She remained in the communion of that church until her decease. For many years prior to that time, she was a great sufferer from rheumatic and other ailments, and in consequence was but little away from home. Her last illness was brief. She felt that her end was near and departed this life in the peace of Christ, on Monday morning, August 20, 1894, the funeral services being conducted at the Presbyterian church jointly by Robert BEER pastor, and Rev. George BENNETT, pastor of the M. E. church. As they had not child living with them, Mr. BARNTHOUSE was left in sad condition of bereavement, in which he has the sincere sympathy of neighbors and friends.
