From Chastain Scrapbook:

DIED--Mrs. Cynthia A. Calahan, at New Buda on the 24th ult., of typhoid fever, after an illness of near four weeks.

Mrs. C. was 40 years of age. She was left a widow in Ohio three and a half years ago, and she came to this county with her eight children three years ago to reside near her father, H. G. Hale. She had some means left her when her husband died, which she invested in property at New Buda, where she has worked and lived along in rather bad health until the final coming of the Fell Destroyer. Her children are being cared for by her brother Lafayette Hale. Mrs. C. was an exemplary lady, and her decease is deeply deplored by a large circle of warm friends, and her departure is sad indeed to the little ones that are want to cluster at her feet.
