Obituary ~ Robert William Craig

Leon, Decatur County, Iowa
ROBERT WILLIAM CRAIG, son of WILLIAM WESLY CRAIG and ELIZA CATHERINE JENREE CRAIG, was born at Leon, Iowa, on November 20th, 1878, and passed away at his home after a lengthy illness, on Saturday, April 2nd, 1955, at the age of 76 years, 4 months, and 3 days.
Mr. CRAIG grew to manhood in Leon, attending high school during the football era. He learned the blacksmith trade under the guidance of his father, and thoughout( *throughout) his lifetime he worked in partnership with his father, continuing after his death until his last illness made it necessary to sell the business. Bob was well known throughout southern Iowa as a craftsman of his trade.
From 1908 to 1916 he was also employed as deputy sheriff of Decatur County while working part time at his blacksmith trade. He was a member of the K-P lodge when it was active in Leon. On February 27th, 1955, Mr. CRAIG received the sacrament of Baptism.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, LOUIS (?)ACK** CRAIG, who passed away in 1939 at Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is survived by his two sisters, with whom he made his home on South Main Street: Mrs. LILLIAN CLARK and Miss NELLE CRAIG, and one nephew LOUIS JACK CRAIG of Long Beach, California besides a number of cousins.
Funeral services were held from the Stewart Funeral Home, Wednesday, April 6th, 1955, at 2:00p.m., conducted by the REV. GEORGE S. SNYDER of the Leon Methodist church. Burial was in the Leon Cemetery .
