WILLIAM WALLACE BLAIR was born at Holly, Oneida County, N.Y., and died on a train on the C.B. & Q., near Chariton, on Saturday, April l8, l896, when on his way home from Kirtland, Ohio, where he had been attending the annual conference of the Latter Day Saints. The following is an extract from his obituary as it appeared in last week's Chronicle:
"He joined the Reorganized Church at Zarahemla (now Blanchardville), Lafayette County, Wis., on April 7, l857, and was ordained to the office of High Priest April 8, the same year. He was ordained one of the Apostles, October 6, l858, and was chosen one of the First Presidency April l0, l873, since when he has been a wise counselor. He was married to MISS ELIZABETH J. DOTY, at dixon, Illinois, on December 25, l849. By this union, five boys and two girls were born to them. In early life they laid away one daughter but afterward another daughter came to bless their home and four sons who with the eldest boy are left to comfort the desolate wife. Their grief is deep as this is the first sorrow that has met them, but "In all lives some rain must fall."
"MR. BLAIR and his family were many years residents of Amboy and Sandwich, Ill., having resided at the latter place at two different times. They also lived at Little Sioux, Iowa, and Salt Lake city, Utah, and lastly at Lamoni. At all these places a large circle of friends both in and out of the church sympathize with the family."
