D. D. Bethards

Daniel Davis Bethards, son of Littleton and Sarah Bethards, was born in Pickaway county, Ohio, Feb. 18, 1850, and died near Woodland, Iowa, May 9, 1911, being 61 years, 2 months and 21 days. He was united in marriage to Mary C. Eskridge May 30, 1872, and to this union were born nine children, Asa P., Sallie A., Angeline M., Johnnie, Littleton, Elnora B., George W., Jasper N., and Lizzie, all of whom surive him except Angeline M. and Johnnie, who died in infancy, together with 14 grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Angeline Wilson of Woodland and Mrs. Rebeccanna Synder, of Hennessey, Okla., and five brothers, Ezra, of Maderia, Calif., Mathias, Harl and Aaron, of Columbus, Ohio, and John D., of Leon. All the surviving children were present and did everything possible for his comfort during his brief illness.

Mr. Bethards came to Iowa in September, 1882; and settled on the farm where he resided until his death. He was a home loving man and will be sadly missed by his family and the entire community. A large number of sympathizing friends attended the short service held at the house at 11 o'clock Thursday morning and followed the remains to their last resting place in the beautiful cemetery at Lineville, which attests the high esteem in which the deceased was held. The residents of the community etend their heartfelt sympathy to the sorrowing family.
