'OBITUARY'

ANDREW JACKSON BEAVERS was born in Highland County, Ohio, Jan. 20, l8l6, and died at his home in Woodland Township, Decatur County, April 5, l90l, aged 85 years, 2 months and l6 days. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.H. Wilson at the residence to a large and weeping audience after which the remains were laid to rest in the family cemetery on the home farm. Deceased was the last surviving member of a family of fourteen children. He first married MARTHA ROADS, June l2, l842, who died Feb. 11, l846; to this union no children were born. He again married to EVE RIDDLE, May 24, l846, who still survives him.

In l848, Uncle JACK and Aunt EVE, as we call them, moved from Hilard to Pickaway County, Ohio, where he cleared two farms in the heavy timber of that county, it being often said of him that he was the greatest worker in Pickaway County. Then to better their condition in getting cheap land, they moved to Iowa in l856 and settled on the farm where he has resided ever since. He was well satisfied with Iowa and made but one trip back to Ohio and that to collect some money that was due him. He prospered after coming to Iowa and was able to settle his children with a good farm each.

Of their nine children, five still survive him. JOHN WESLEY and THOMAS EDGAR, of Nebraska; JAMES S., LENORA LINDSEY, and ELVIRA LANE, of this county; fifty-six grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren and a host of friends are left to mourn their loss. Members of the Masonic Order acted as pall bearers, of which Order he had been a member for thirty years.
