Thursday, Sept. 22, there assembled at the home of William Gibson, near Leroy, Mr. and Mrs. S.L. Curry and Mr. and Mrs. Mitch McVay, of Weldon, and Mr. and Mrs. John O. Cherry and Lou Lillard and family. A number of friends who were to be there attended the funeral of MRS. ARNOLD to show their love for her and sympathy for her family. How much everyone will miss the music of her voice and kindly ways.
MR. THOMAS BROWN, of Garden Grove and MR. GIBSON are just of an age and the families have been in the habit of fittingly celebrating the event together. Fourteen years ago a large company greeted them at this place in honor of their sixtieth anniversary. Today MR. BROWN and his family are in deepest grief for the death of their faithful wife and loving mother. Their sorrow is shared by all who knew MRS. BROWN as a neighbor and friend.

Died, at Garden Grove, Iowa, Sept. 20, l898, after a long illness, ELSIE, wife of GUY P. ARNOLD, aged 44 years.
ELSIE PAULINE HOWES was born at Oak Creek, Milwaukee County, Wis., Jan. 28, l854; and moved with her parents to Mendota, Ill., in March, l868.
Later, in March, l870, the family moved to this place.
She was married to GUY P. ARNOLD Jan. 20, l872, and has since lived in our midst a universal favorite with all who came under the influence of her genial and sunny temperament. Her children mourn the loss of a loving, tender mother; and her friends will find it hard to fill her place in their circle. The saddest feature of MRS. ARNOLD's death is the absence of her husband in Alaska. His grief no one can measure.
But he and the family have the sincerest sympathy of all who have known them during their long residence here, and they are offered all the kindly help a sympathetic community can give.
